Brij Bhushan sexual harassment case: Delhi court calls allegations 'false, politically motivated'

PTC News Desk: The Delhi Court while acquitting former BJP MP and ex-WFI chief Bhij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a Delhi court said the allegations levelled against him appeared to be politically motivated and fabricated.

The court said the allegations against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh appeared to be rehearsed, carefully prepared and planted.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar of Rouse Avenue Courts on Monday acquitted Singh and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar. The full judgment has not yet been made public.

The court also questioned how the allegations were made against the accused. According to ANI, it observed that the women wrestlers made similar allegations at the same time, despite the incidents they described allegedly taking place at different locations and on different dates.

The court further pointed out that some of the complainants continued to remain in contact with the accused even after making the allegations. They reportedly invited Singh to family events and weddings and maintained friendly relations with him.

The court said this continued interaction, including invitations to family functions and wedding ceremonies, raised doubts about the credibility and reliability of the allegations.

The court also noticed that the victims met higher authorities but did not disclose the incident to them either.

The court found that the evidence of hostile witnesses, the subsequent conduct of the alleged victims, the circumstances surrounding their earlier statements and the absence of contemporaneous complaints collectively supported the defence contention that the allegations were not reliable.
