Centre to acquire land from 321 villages in Punjab and Haryana for Delhi-Amritsar bullet train
PTC Web Desk: The Central Government has initiated the process of acquiring land for the Delhi-Amritsar Bullet Train project, targeting around 321 villages across Punjab and Haryana. Survey work for the high-speed rail corridor is now being conducted on a war footing. This ambitious project aims to connect Delhi to Amritsar, covering a distance of 465 km in just two hours.
The train will make stops at 15 stations, including Chandigarh, and is designed to reach a maximum speed of 350 km/h. The operational speed is expected to be 320 km/h, with an average speed of 250 km/h. The train will have the capacity to accommodate approximately 750 passengers per trip.
Land acquisition details
A total of 343 villages in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab will be affected by the land acquisition process. In Punjab alone, land from 186 villages will be acquired for the rail line. District-wise details of the acquisition include:
Mohali: 39 villages; Jalandhar: 49 villages; Ludhiana: 37 villages; Amritsar: 22 villages; Fatehgarh Sahib: 25 villages; Kapurthala: 12 villages; Tarn Taran: 1 village and Rupnagar: 1 village
The Indian Infrastructure and Investment Management Agency (IIMR) is conducting meetings with farmers whose lands are to be acquired. Farmers are being assured compensation at rates five times the prevailing collector rates of their respective villages. Central and railway authorities are actively carrying out extensive surveys to facilitate the process.
