CJP's 24-hour deadline to restore Jantar Mantar as protest site

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Vijay Reddy on Tuesday gave Delhi Police 24 hours to respond to the party’s demand to restore Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. He warned that the party would launch fresh demonstrations and organise a nationwide mobilisation if its demand was not met. Reddy said the party had submitted a formal letter at Parliament Street Police Station, requesting permission to hold peaceful protests at Jantar Mantar. He added that the party was willing to follow the 10-day advance notice requirement if necessary.

Accusing Delhi Police of denying permission at the direction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Reddy described the notice requirement as arbitrary and said Jantar Mantar belonged to the public. He warned that if the police failed to respond within 24 hours, the party would return to the streets and appeal to people across the country to march towards Jantar Mantar.

CJP to launch Rajasthan protest over crackdown on activists

PTC News Desk:  A day after the Centre removed Jantar Mantar’s status as a designated protest site, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) volunteers staged a flash protest there early Tuesday morning. The demonstration was led by party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared a video of the protest on social media. The footage showed volunteers climbing over an iron gate and a police barricade to enter the area and stage their demonstration.

The protesters, carrying party flags, raised slogans as police personnel stationed at the site tried to stop them. The group was heard shouting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Inquilab Zindabad” while being chased by the police.

According to Dipke, the protesters were later detained by Delhi Police and taken away from the site.
