Delhi Police register FIR against Arvind Kejriwal, other AAP leaders over 'ruckus' at Bangla Sahib during CJP protest
PTC News Desk: Delhi Police have registered an FIR following a complaint by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) against AAP leaders and MLAs, including Arvind Kejriwal, over an alleged disruption at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and the circulation of misleading videos and social media posts.
The police said they were examining video footage submitted by the DSGMC as part of the investigation.
In its complaint to the Police Commissioner, the DSGMC accused Kejriwal, AAP MLAs, party workers and others of violating the sanctity of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib by staging a political protest on its premises.
The committee alleged that AAP workers and supporters entered the gurdwara in a coordinated manner, raised political slogans and created a disturbance. It urged the police to identify those involved, preserve relevant evidence and investigate who organised and directed the protest.
Police have launched an investigation and said further action would be taken based on its findings.
AAP rejects allegations, blames police
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has rejected the allegations and instead accused the Delhi Police of entering the gurdwara and violating the sanctity of the shrine. The party also demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah take responsibility for the police action and resign.
AAP chief spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said the BJP had repeatedly criticised the Congress over the 1984 anti-Sikh violence, but the incident at Bangla Sahib had exposed what he described as the party’s hypocrisy.
He alleged that although the BJP and Congress were political rivals, their approach towards suppressing Sikhs and their voices appeared similar. Dhaliwal also said the Delhi Police’s actions had brought back painful memories of Operation Bluestar and the events of 1984, which continue to remain deeply significant for the Sikh community.
