Congress gets notice to vacate Delhi's Akbar, Raisina Road offices by March 28
PTC News Desk: The Congress Party has received a notice to vacate two of its most prominent party offices in the national capital. In a development most likely to snowball into a political flashpoint between the government and the opposition, the veteran party has been asked to vacate its national headquarters at 24 Akbar Road and another key premises at 5 Raisina Road by March 28.
A senior Congress leader confirmed that the notices were received a few days ago, leaving the party with little time to respond.
“We are exploring legal options available before us but this time government is more aggressive than previous times,” a leader familiar with the matter said.
According to party sources, the Congress is weighing legal options to get some relief in the matter and see if they can retail two most politically significant properties.
The party is also exploring political options in a bid to get a short extention in order to reorganise the allotment of the property. Congress may bring a senior leader to the Rajya Sabha and have the bunglow alloted in their names and make it eligible to prolonge use.
The Akbar Road office holds significant revarance as it once housed Sir Reginald Maxwell, a member of Viceroy Lord Linlithgow's Executive Council during the Raj.
Alongside 5 Raisina Road, the properties have served as key centres for party coordination and decision-making in Delhi.
