Cricketer Suresh Raina appears before ED for interrogation in illegal betting apps case
PTC News Desk: Cricketer Suresh Raina appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday for questioning in connection with money laundering case linked to illegal betting app.
According to the reports, Raina is linked to the case through his endorsements ,while the agency is attempting to establish its links with an app named 1xBet.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating several illegal betting apps accused of defrauding numerous individuals and investors of crores of rupees, as well as evading substantial taxes.
According to officials, the 38-year-old cricketer was summoned in connection with one such case, and his statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as part of the inquiry.
The agency is also probing the promotional strategies of these illegal apps and had summoned officials from Google and Meta last month in relation to the matter.
Earlier, several betting apps have been banned, but have resurfaced under different banner, promoted by celebrities and social media influencers.
