Sandeep Pathak faces arrest heat after Punjab FIRs; police teams fan out across states
PTC Web Desk: Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP who recently switched political allegiance, is under mounting pressure after Punjab Police registered two non-bailable FIRs against him in separate districts, setting off a fast-moving political and legal storm.
According to official sources, Pathak left his Pandara Park residence in Delhi shortly before a Punjab Police team reached the spot. Security around the residence was tightened, with barricades and additional deployment by Delhi Police, as authorities anticipated possible action in the case.
Sources within the government indicated that multiple police teams have been dispatched, not just within Punjab but across different states, in an effort to trace the MP. Investigators suspect that Pathak may be attempting to evade arrest by moving out of his known locations.
The FIRs reportedly include serious allegations, with claims of corruption and misconduct emerging from separate complainants. One of the complaints is said to have originated in Jalandhar, though officials have not yet released detailed documents outlining the charges.
The development comes close on the heels of a major political shift. Pathak was among seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, who recently exited the AAP and aligned with the BJP. The move significantly altered the political balance and triggered sharp reactions in Punjab’s political circles.
In the aftermath of the defections, the AAP government in Punjab moved swiftly to consolidate its position by tabling a confidence motion in the state Assembly, which it won.
So far, there has been no official statement from Pathak or the BJP regarding the FIRs or the possibility of arrest. With police teams actively searching and legal proceedings expected to intensify, the situation remains fluid and politically charged.
