Fresh twist in dowry death case: Nikki said 'cylinder blast' caused burns; cops rule out
PTC News Desk: In a fresh twist in Greater Noida dowry death case, Nikki Bhati who was allegedly set ablze by her in-laws last week, told doctors in her dying declaration that she suffered “burn injuries while cooking”, said police investigators.
This was allegedly revealed by a doctor and a nurse at Fortis Hospital, where Nikki was admitted, in their statement to the police, sources said.
However the police officials investigating the case have ruled out the possibility of a cylinder blast as they did not find any traces or evidence supporting the claims of cylinder blast. The cops are now investigating that why Nikki gave such a statement or whether she was coerced into giving such statements.
The police have also recovered an empty bottle of thinner and lighter from the house, which is a key evidence in the case.
Among key evidence is videos recorded by Nikki's sister Kanchan, claiming to be of the day of the incident. Sisters Nikki and Kanchan were married into the Bhati family, to two brothers, in 2016.
According to the police officials, Nikki made such comments in order to avoid criminally implicating her in-laws to protect her sister, who is also married into the same family.
Nikki died last week while being shifted to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. Her postmortem report said she suffered 80% burns.
