Greater Noida death mystery solved: Family of five died by suicide amid property feud, say police

PTC News Desk: The five members of a family who were found dead at their home in Greater Noida on Saturday are suspected to have died by suicide following a long-running property dispute, police said. Initially, food poisoning was suspected because the family had reportedly consumed tea and noodles the previous night.

However, post-mortem examinations revealed signs of poisoning. The exact cause of death will be determined after laboratory tests are completed on preserved internal organ samples.

The case took a new turn on Sunday after police recovered a voice note recorded by Mahesh, one of the deceased. In the recording, he allegedly blamed his two sisters and brother-in-law for the family’s situation.

Police have arrested Mahesh’s sisters, Sunita and Sapna, along with their brother-in-law, Shekhar, in connection with the case. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against the three following a complaint filed by a relative of the deceased.

Mahesh, his wife Lalita and their three children were found dead inside their home on Saturday. Investigators are examining the voice recording, the property dispute and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Voice note and property dispute under investigation

According to police, Mahesh recorded the voice note on his mobile phone before his death and held his two sisters and brother-in-law responsible for the family’s difficulties. The recording has become an important part of the investigation.

Police said the family had been involved in a long-running property dispute. A complaint filed by Mahesh’s brother-in-law alleges that the two sisters and their brother-in-law had harassed Mahesh and his family.

Police have arrested all three relatives based on the complaint. However, the allegations against them are still being investigated, and their role in the deaths has not yet been established.

Poisoning suspected

Food poisoning was initially suspected because the family had reportedly consumed tea and noodles the night before they were found dead.

However, post-mortem examinations revealed signs of poisoning. Doctors preserved internal organ samples from all five deceased for further testing, and the samples have been sent to a laboratory.

The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the test results are received.

Police are investigating the suspected suicide angle, the possibility of poisoning and the family’s property dispute. The incident took place in Nagla Shri Padam village, under the jurisdiction of the Rabupura police station in Greater Noida. Further investigation is underway.
