Greater Noida student dies by suicide after jumping from hostel building following alcohol reprimand
PTC News Desk: A second-year BTech student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of his hostel building in Greater Noida on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Udit Soni, a native of Jhansi district had returned to his hostel in Knowledge Park 3 with two friends after consuming alcohol.
According to the police, the hostel management had rebuked the student for his behavious and sent a video of the same to his father, Vijay Soni, who in turn, not only scolded the student but also demanded him to move back home.
“On Friday night, Udit Soni, a second-year BTech student and resident of Jhansi district, returned to his hostel with his friends Chetan and Kuldeep after consuming alcohol,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudhir Kumar said.
Angered over being pulled up, Soni reportedly jumped from fourth floor. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
“Distressed by the incident, the student jumped from the fourth floor of the hostel. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead,” Kumar said.
The body was sent for the post mortem and further investigation into the mater is currently underway. police have detained two people in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, the BTech student's death has sparked massive outrage among the students prompting widespread demonstartions on the hostel premises. They alleged that Soni took the extreme step due to the hostel operator's misbehaviour and mental harassment.
