Haryana BJP leader killing: One arrested for Surendra Jawahar's murder in Sonepat
PTC Web Desk: In a shocking incident, BJP leader Surendra Jawahar was shot dead in Sonepat on Friday evening, reportedly over a land dispute. The assailant, identified as Mannu, first fired two bullets at the leader in a narrow lane. Attempting to save himself, Surendra Jawahar ran into a shop, but the attacker followed him inside, where a scuffle ensued. During the altercation, Mannu fired a fatal shot to his head, killing him on the spot.
The entire incident was captured on video, which has now surfaced. The accused initially fled the scene but was arrested on Saturday morning after a police manhunt.
The Sonepat police formed three special teams to track down the suspect, conducting raids that led to his arrest. The victim's body has been sent to Khanpur Hospital for postmortem.
According to reports, Surendra Jawahar had purchased land that originally belonged to Mannu’s aunt. The accused was allegedly opposed to the sale and had warned Surendra against stepping onto the property. Despite the warnings, Surendra proceeded with the land transaction, which angered the accused. Seizing the opportunity on Holi night, Mannu executed the attack.
The shooting occurred around 9 pm on Friday while Surendra was in his lane. Mannu, a resident of the same village, opened fire at him. The first bullet struck Surendra in the street, prompting him to flee into a shop. The accused fired again but missed. Inside the shop, Mannu fired the fatal shot to his head, killing him instantly.
Surendra Jawahar was the head of BJP's Mundlana Mandal unit and a numberdar (village head) of Jawahar. The police are now investigating whether anyone else was involved in planning the attack.
