Haryana cheating case: Impersonator held while writing CBSE Class 10 science exam in Palwal
PTC Web Desk: A case of exam impersonation came to light during the Class 10 Science board examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at a local examination centre in Palwal, Haryana. A young boy was caught red-handed while attempting to write the exam in place of a registered student.
Officials said the accused had altered his appearance by growing a beard in an effort to avoid detection. However, vigilant invigilators noticed irregularities and intervened in time.
According to Krishan Gopal, in-charge of Camp police station, a formal complaint was submitted by Dr Payal Taneja, the Centre Superintendent of Nishant School. The centre is currently conducting CBSE board exams for Classes 10 and 12, including candidates from Greenwood Convent School.
The incident occurred on February 25 when a candidate seated under the name Ojas Mangla appeared suspicious to the supervising teachers. His conduct and mannerisms raised doubts, prompting them to verify his documents carefully.
During verification, they observed that his facial features did not match the photograph printed on the admit card and attendance records.
When questioned strictly, the youth admitted that he was not the actual candidate. He revealed that his name is Vishnu and that he had agreed to take the Science examination on behalf of Ojas Mangla. Police sources said the beard was intentionally kept to disguise his identity.
After the matter was confirmed, the school authorities immediately alerted both the police and the CBSE observer. Police reached the examination centre and detained the accused.
A detailed report of the incident has been forwarded to the CBSE authorities for further disciplinary action against the original candidate. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and taken the impersonator into custody. Further investigation is in progress.
