Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on extended leave after his name surfaced in a suicide note allegedly written by senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was found dead at his Chandigarh home last week.

Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur sent on leave after being named in IPS officer's suicide note

PTC News Desk: Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on leave after he was named in IPS officer Y Puran Kumar's suicide note besides seven other for alleged harassment and discrimination. An investigation into the matter is underway. 


In a significant development, Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on extnded leave after his name surfaced in a suicide note allegedly written by senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was found dead at his Chandigarh home last week.

"Yes, the DGP has been sent on leave by the government," said Rajiv Jaitly, media adviser to the Haryana chief minister.

Following the registration of FIR, the Chandigarh Police constituted a six-member special investigation team to probe the case. 

The family of IPS officer has refused to give consent for the post mortem and cremation until their demands are addressed. 

The 52-year-old, a 2002-batch IPS officer posted as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak's Sunaria, allegedly shot himself dead at his Sector 11 residence on October 7. 

An eight-page suicide note was also recovered from the spot that named eight senior IPS officers, including DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, accusing them of harassment and maligning his image.

"They ruined my career and peace of mind. The system failed me," Kumar wrote in the note, according to sources familiar with the probe.

After being named in the suicide note, Bijarniya was transferred from Rohtak on Saturday while the details of new posting remained unknown and Kapur was sent on indefinite leave pending further inquiry.

Shatrujeet Kapur took charge of state DGP on August 16, 2023. He has also previously served as Director General of the state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), tackling corruption and high-profile cases in Haryana.
