Pathankot: Missile-like shell found in UBDC canal, security tightened
PTC Web Desk: A suspected missile-like object found in the UBDC (Upper Bari Doab Canal) near the Sujanpur-Jugial Road in Pathankot triggered a security alert on Saturday.
The object was first spotted by a local worker who was returning home from a factory. Its appearance reportedly resembled a missile or an old bomb shell. He immediately informed other people in the area, following which the police were alerted through the emergency helpline 112.
A police team from Sujanpur police station reached the canal soon after receiving the information. An Army team also arrived at the location and began examining the object.
The bomb disposal squad was later called in and a security cordon was put around the area as a precaution.
Police suspect old shell may have been washed downstream
Pathankot SSP Manpreet Singh said the object appears to be an old bomb shell. According to the SSP, the shell may have been carried downstream by strong water currents in the canal and became visible after the water level dropped.
The Army's bomb disposal team has been informed and will take the shell into its custody before safely disposing of it, the police said. Authorities are keeping the area secured while specialists examine the object.
Factory worker spots suspicious object
According to eyewitness Mohan Lal, he was returning home after finishing his factory shift when he stopped near the canal to wash his face and hands.
He then noticed a suspicious object partly submerged in the water. As it appeared similar to a missile or bomb, he immediately called 112 and informed the police.

Area secured as a precaution
Police personnel reached the spot after the alert. They immediately called the bomb disposal team.
Officials said the object would be removed from the canal only under the supervision of trained experts. Its exact nature and whether it poses any explosive threat will be confirmed after a detailed examination.
