Himachal rain fury: Restaurant, shops washes away in Manali; building collapses in Mandi
PTC News Desk: Torrential rains in Himachal Pradesh have triggered a row of flash floods causing extensive damage across the state, bringing the life to a standstill and complete disruption of traffic between Mandi and Manali.
With rivers and stream overflowing and mountains cracking, incessant rains have inflicted heavy damage in Kullu-Manali.
A restaurant in Manali completely washed away due to heavy rains and another incident involving two building collapse was reported in Mandi. However, as a precautionary measure, the buildings were already evacuated five days ago in view of the potential threat, preventing casualties.
Meanwhile, raging Beas river has washed away part of Chandigarh-Manali highway between Kullu and Manali and also wreaked havoc on hotels and restaurants on the intervening night of August 25 and 26. The Manali-Leh highway was blocked shortly after raging Beas swept away portion of highway at Vashisht Chowk near Manali.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Chamba and Kangra and an orange alert for Kullu and Mandi. Whereas the weather department has issued yellow alert for Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Lahaul Spiti.
All the schools and colleges in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi and Kully will remain shut.
