Hyderabad: 8 Children amongst 17 killed as massive fire engulfs building near Iconic Charminar
PTC News Desk: At least seventeen people including children were killed after a massive fire broke out in a building near Gulzar House in the Hyderabad Old City, an area close to the historical monument Charminar.
As per the initial details, the victims' list includes Abhisekh Modi (30), Rajender Kumar (67), Munnibhai (72), Sumitra (65), Iraj (2 years), Arushi Jain (17), Harshali Gupta (7 years), and Sheetaj Jain (37).
As soon as the incident unfolded, rescue teams successfully rushed to the spot and saved between 10 to 15 people so far. Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, speaking about the fire accident, said, "The fire broke out around 6:00 am, and by 6:16 am, the Telangana Fire Department was present at the scene. They did their best to save everyone, but unfortunately, the fire had already spread extensively. Most of the people inside the building lost their lives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy in a post on X, saying, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for each victim. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
Further the chief minister has directed the authorities to take all the necessary steps to facilitate assitance to the families impacted by the tragedy and assured best medical care for those injured in the blaze.
