What makes Muhurat Trading 2025 noteworthy is a departure from tradition: the session has been shifted from its usual evening slot to the afternoon. The trading window is scheduled from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a pre-open session from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm. After the session, order modifications will be permitted until 2:55 pm.

This afternoon timing marks a historic change. Reports suggest it is the first time since 1957 that Muhurat Trading will not take place in the evening. Many brokers have welcomed the adjustment, highlighting benefits such as lighter workloads and better visibility during daylight hours.

For many investors, Muhurat Trading is less about immediate profits and more about intention. The session is a symbolic ritual to seek blessings from Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu deity of wealth, and to start the financial year on a positive note.

Investors typically make small, symbolic purchases during this hour, often in fundamentally strong stocks intended for long-term holding. The focus is on planting seeds for growth in the new Samvat 2082, rather than aggressive trading.

Historically, Muhurat Trading sessions tend to close in positive territory, reflecting festive optimism. However, market participants should remember that gains are not guaranteed, as broader market fundamentals and macroeconomic factors continue to influence stock prices.

PTC Web Desk:  India’s stock markets are observing a special one-hour Muhurat Trading session today to mark the start of Samvat 2082. This year, for the first time since 1957, the session is scheduled in the afternoon, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, instead of the traditional evening slot.

Significance of Muhurat Trading

Muhurat Trading derives from the Sanskrit term Muhurat, meaning an auspicious time. On Diwali day, stock exchanges open for a symbolic one-hour session to allow investors to make token trades, aiming to usher in prosperity and good fortune for the financial year ahead. While the session follows standard trading and settlement rules, its purpose is largely ceremonial rather than strategic.

Many investors use this occasion to place small trades in well-established companies, particularly blue-chip stocks, as a mark of tradition and optimism for long-term growth.

Investors and market watchers are closely tracking Sensex and Nifty 50 movements during this special session to gauge market sentiment at the start of the financial new year. The afternoon timing in 2025 adds a new dimension to this long-standing Diwali tradition, blending cultural significance with market participation.

Muhurat Trading continues to be a unique intersection of finance, tradition, and investor optimism, reflecting India’s blend of culture and commerce.
