Jammu and Kashmir: Pilgrimage to Amarnath cave shrine resumes after temporary suspension
PTC Web Desk: A fresh group of pilgrims on Thursday embarked on their spiritual journey to the Amarnath cave shrine, as the yatra resumed following a temporary suspension. The yatra was paused due to landslides on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which links the starting point of the pilgrimage in Jammu with its final destination in Srinagar.
The pilgrims began their expedition from the Pantha Chowk base camp, taking the Baltal and Pahalgam routes to reach the Amarnath cave shrine. The landslides on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway rendered certain parts of the route impassable, leading to the suspension of the yatra in order to prioritise the safety of the pilgrims.
The annual journey from Jammu to the sacred cave shrine of Shri Amarnath in Srinagar faced a halt due to a landslip on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway within Ramban district, as reported by officials.
During this time, the yatra will remain on hold from Pantha Chowk yatra base camp to Jammu. It will resume once the national highway is cleared for regular vehicular movement. The Jammu and Kashmir traffic police informed that the Jammu-Srinagar NHW is currently closed due to a landslip at T2 Marog Ramban. They strongly advised people not to travel on NH-44 unless they have received confirmation from Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
The Amarnath Yatra, which started on July 1, is scheduled to conclude on August 31, 2023.
