Kerala declares holiday on July 20 for all educational institutions on account of FIFA World Cup final
PTC News Desk: The Kerala government has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Monday because the FIFA World Cup 2026 final will be played late Sunday night and continue into the early hours of Monday.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has directed that all educational institutions, including professional colleges, remain closed for the day.
However, examinations that were scheduled in advance will be held as planned and will not be postponed. The government is expected to issue the official order shortly.
The decision follows demands from opposition leaders and others who urged the government to declare a holiday for students. Former Education Minister V. Sivankutty had earlier pointed out that students would find it difficult to attend classes after staying up late to watch the World Cup final.
The holiday is intended to give students and educational institutions time to adjust to the late-night match, while ensuring that pre-scheduled examinations continue without any changes.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 final will feature defending champions Argentina taking on Spain in a highly anticipated title clash.
