Sonam Wangchuk calls hospitalisation 'illegal detention', urges to make Parliament march success
PTC News Desk: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has called his hospitalisation an "illegal detention" in his first message to supporters since being shifted from Jantar Mantar to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
In the handwritten note, shared on his X account through his wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, Wangchuk urged people to join the Cockroach Janta Party's planned march to Parliament on Monday, July 20. He described the campaign as "India's Second Freedom Movement."
The message came a day after Delhi Police shifted the 59-year-old activist to Safdarjung Hospital on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike, citing medical concerns.
Wangchuk appealed for a "fear-free" and "injustice-free" India and said the movement was aimed at securing "freedom from injustice." Referring to issues such as alleged examination paper leaks, he said these concerns were at the heart of both his hunger strike and the Cockroach Janta Party's protest.
He also appeared to compare his alleged "illegal detention" with the broader fight for freedom and justice.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the proposed Parliament march. According to Delhi Police sources, the Cockroach Janta Party had not sought permission for the rally until Saturday. Officials said that, with the Monsoon Session of Parliament set to begin, permission for such a march is unlikely to be granted even if the organisers submit a request.
