Yamuna River's water level at 205.50m, slightly surpassing danger mark, as waterlogging persists in Delhi.

Jul 17, 2023 08:51 AM

Waterlogging on ITO road in the capital improves as Yamuna River gradually recedes, offering relief to affected areas.

New Delhi, July 16: Yamuna river levels recede, but some areas in Delhi still affected by flooding. The river is expected to dip below the danger mark soon, providing relief to the government and affected individuals. Although floodwaters have subsided in certain regions, including Civil Lines in the north and parts of the southeast, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar in northwest Delhi continue to face challenges.

According to a central water commission official, the water level is anticipated to drop below the danger mark of 205.33 on Monday morning. The slight increase in water released from the Hathnikund barrage on Sunday afternoon is unlikely to have a significant impact unless there are heavy downpours in the hills.

Government agencies have been working diligently to clear waterlogged areas and restore drivable roads before the start of the new week. However, the receding waters have left behind heaps of silt, unpleasant odors, and a potential risk of infection. Moreover, the lack of access to drinking water and food has emerged as a new threat for residents returning to their homes.
