Major collision between two vehicles on Panipat flyover claims three lives; traffic remains suspended for hours
PTC Web Desk: A devastating collision on the Panipat flyover late Monday night left three persons dead, besides bringing traffic to a all for several kms on the GT Road. The accident occurred at approximately 11:50 pm when a Varna sedan lost control, breached the central divider, and slammed head-on into an oncoming Mahindra Scorpio.
Eyewitnesses said the Varna was travelling southbound on the Karnal–Delhi carriageway when it veered wildly, broke through the concrete divider, and entered the Delhi–Chandigarh lane at high speed. The impact tore both vehicles apart, scattering debris across the roadway.
A young man in the sedan was declared dead at the scene. Three others—including the sedan’s driver, identified locally only as Sachin of Tehsil Camp North Nagar, and two occupants of the Scorpio—were critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment, taking the death toll in the accident to three.
The collision took place directly in front of the HDFC Bank branch on the flyover, causing gridlock in both directions for several hours. Traffic police worked through the night to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of vehicles.
The police have been unable to identify the deceased so far. One victim was found to bear a “Taj” tattoo on one hand, while the phrase “Money is Everything” was inked on the elbow of the other arm—details that may aid in identification.
According to local reports, Sachin—who owns a factory in Sector 6—was travelling with a friend toward Samalkha from the toll plaza when the sedan spun out of control. The police have impounded both vehicles for further forensic examination and are conducting inquiries to determine whether speed or mechanical failure contributed to the tragedy. A post-mortem examination and official identification process are underway.
Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or photographs related to the incident is urged to contact the Panipat Traffic Police immediately.
