Manipur viral video: Centre to hand over case probe to CBI, seek trial outside state
PTC News Desk: Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will refer Manipur viral video case to the CBI, the government sources said.
A 26-second video from Manipur has sparked outrage across the country, depicting two women being stripped naked, assaulted, and paraded by a mob. According to the reports, the Centre will also file an affidavit before the Supreme Court demanding that the trial of a viral video case be held outside of Manipur.
The claimed incident occurred on May 4, a day after ethnic violence erupted in Manipur.
After a video of the incident went viral, the police responded by arresting seven people, including the main culprit.
According to the source, the phone from which the viral video of Manipur women was recorded has been recovered, and the individual who shot the video has also been apprehended.
The violence in Manipur erupted on May 3 following a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) in protest of the proposed inclusion of people from the Meitei community on the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).
