PTC News Desk: A massive traffic jam spanning across 65 kilometres has brought the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway 19 in Bihar to a standstill, leaving vehicles struck for four days.

Hundreds of vehicles are lined up almost bumper to bumper, forming a seemingly endless queue on a stretch of the Delhi–Kolkata Highway in Bihar, where traffic has been stuck for the past four days — with no signs of relief yet.

The traffic jam has also hit businesses. Drivers carrying perishable food items are frightened by the massive traffic jam and worry about the loss of their raw materials. Pedestrians, ambulances, emergency services, and tourist vehicles are also facing the brunt of the traffic jam.

Following heavy rainfall in Bihar’s Rohtas district last Friday, diversions and service lanes built by the company constructing the six-lane highway on National Highway 19 became waterlogged.

The roads are riddled with potholes, and the stagnant water has made the surface slippery, worsening the gridlock by the hour. Even travelling a few kilometres now takes several hours. The traffic congestion has extended as far as Aurangabad, about 65 km from Rohtas.

The jam has affected far more than just daily commuters. Truckers carrying perishable goods fear huge losses, while ambulances, emergency vehicles, pedestrians, and tourists are struggling amid the chaos.

Despite the growing crisis, reports suggest that authorities have yet to take effective action.
