Gujarat has emerged as one of the worst-hit states, with Surat district reporting 17 rain-related deaths over the past few days amid severe flooding.

Delhi-NCR remains on high alert

After Thursday's intense downpour, which inundated several parts of the national capital and caused widespread traffic congestion, Delhi continues to remain under a yellow alert. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph during the day.

Uttarakhand faces rising river levels

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue at isolated locations in Uttarakhand. Authorities have closed schools in Rudraprayag district for Friday as a precaution after water levels in the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers rose significantly.

The ongoing Char Dham Yatra also faced disruption after a landslide near Nalu Pani in Uttarkashi blocked the Gangotri Highway. Road restoration teams have been deployed to clear debris and reopen the route.

Himachal battles rain damage

Persistent rainfall has affected normal life in Himachal Pradesh, where dozens of roads remain blocked and essential services have been impacted. According to disaster management authorities, several electricity transformers and water supply schemes have also been damaged. Fresh spells of heavy rain are expected in parts of Shimla and Sirmaur districts.

Red alert in Western UP 

The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts in western Uttar Pradesh, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall through Friday. Authorities have ordered the closure of schools in multiple districts, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Moradabad, to ensure student safety.

Officials in Prayagraj have also stepped up flood preparedness as river levels continue to rise following continuous rainfall, although key rivers remain below danger levels for now.

Gujarat begins recovery after flooding

Floodwaters have started receding in Surat after exceptionally heavy rainfall caused extensive waterlogging and forced evacuations in several areas. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the affected regions and directed officials to formulate a long-term strategy to tackle recurring flooding linked to nearby creeks.

Rescue efforts continue in Kerala

In Kerala's Wayanad district, rescue teams remain engaged in search operations following the recent landslide that claimed six lives. Personnel, assisted by sniffer dogs, are continuing efforts to trace two missing people, though persistent rain is slowing debris removal operations.
