NIA nabs key weapons supplier who also provided hideouts to Bambiha group members

New Delhi, January 10: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a man who was a key logistics provider to gangsters, as well as a weapons supplier, and who also provided hideouts to members of the Bambiha group before and after the crimes.

On Monday, the investigation agency apprehended Chhotu Ram Bhaat, a resident of Sirsa's Chautala village. According to a release, the NIA conducted searches at two locations in Sirsa (including Chhotu Ram Bhaat's house) on December 21 last month in order to dismantle and disrupt the emerging nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and weapon suppliers based in India and abroad.

In two cases registered by the NIA in August 2022, a few of the most desperate gang leaders and their associates based in India and abroad who are spearheading and carrying out such terror and criminal activities were identified and booked.

The operation is part of the NIA's ongoing crackdown on top gangsters and their weapons suppliers in Haryana and Punjab.

According to the release, the arrest is intended to dismantle the illegal arms support infrastructure, as well as the hideouts of absconders from the Bambiha-led terror-criminal syndicate.

"They were taking advantage of the border location of their hideout with Punjab. Further, investigations will continue to dismantle such terror networks as well as their funding and support infrastructure," the release added.

The NIA investigations are aimed at identifying critical elements of the terror-criminal syndicate's support infrastructure and then taking decisive action against those involved, according to the statement.
