Bengaluru Rameshwaram café blast: NIA takes over café blast case; investigation underway

Bengaluru Rameshwaram café blast: Bengaluru was shaken last week as a low-intensity bomb blast rocked the popular Rameshwaram Cafe in the Whitefield area, leaving 10 persons injured.

The blast took place at the cafe on March 1 in Bengaluru's Whitefield area where several people were injured following an explosion that occurred during the busy lunch hour causing chaos and panic among customers and staff.

Recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over Bengaluru's The Rameshwaram Cafe blast probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which has re-registered the case and started an investigation.

The case was handed over to the NIA last week following the visit of an NIA team to the blast site.
Earlier, the Bengaluru Police had registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Substances Act in connection with the explosion at the cafe.

The blast took place at 1 pm on March 1 and the police had also found a suspect in the CCTV footage, keeping a bag inside the cafe. The police probe so far indicated that an IED device with a timer was used to carry out the explosion.

On Sunday, the Karnataka Home Minister provided an update on the ongoing investigation, stating that 8 teams have been formed to explore various angles, including potential jealousy factors, in relation to the incident. Numerous CCTV footages have been collected and analyzed.

Minister urged the opposition parties to support the investigation rather than politicizing the issue. He clarified that any connection to the Mangaluru blast is yet to be determined, although similar materials and technical systems were used.

The National Security Guard (NSG) has been called in, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrator. The Minister also mentioned briefing the Chief Minister on the progress and convening a meeting with senior officers. He called for restraint from the BJP in making negative statements.
