Nitish Kumar under fire for pulling woman's hijab at event, opposition slams 'despicable act'
PTC News Desk: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is under scanner after he pulled down a woman's hijab while handing over appointment letters to AYUSH doctors at an event. The video is doing rounds on social media with opposition and netizens expressing anger over the incident.
The incident took place at ‘Samvad’, the CM's secretariat, where appointment letters were given away to more than 1,000 AYUSH doctors.
The video shows Nitish Kumar pointing towards woman's headscarf after handing her appointment letter. He asked her about it, and instructed her to remove it before proceeding to pull it down himself.
As video of the incident went viral, opposition was swift to train guns at Nitish Kumar raising questions over his mentality.
"What has happened to Nitish ji? Has his mental condition now reached a completely pathetic state or has Nitish Babu now become 100% Sanghi?," RJD wrote on X.
Calling the act 'despicable', Congress lashed out at Bihar CM and demanded his resignation.
"This is Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Look at his shamelessness - when a lady doctor came to collect her appointment letter, Nitish Kumar pulled her hijab. The man holding the highest office in Bihar is openly committing such despicable acts. Imagine how safe women will be in the state? Nitish Kumar should resign immediately for this despicable act. This vulgarity is unforgivable," Congress' post read.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shiv Sena UBT leader, termed the act a "public harassment".
"This is absolutely condemnable and force pulling a woman’s veil down is nothing but public harassment of a woman by the elected CM," she wrote on X.
