'No connection to cricket': Ratan Tata denies claims about announcing reward for players
PTC News Desk: Industrialist Ratan Tata has denied making any announcement, offering any reward, or making any suggestions to the International Cricket Council or any player.
Taking to X, the industrialist said, "I have made no suggestions to the ICC or any cricket faculty about any cricket member regarding a fine or reward to any players. I have no connection to cricket whatsoever. Please do not believe WhatsApp forwards and videos of such nature unless they come from my official platforms."
There were WhatsApp forwards and social media videos circulating that falsely claimed Ratan Tata had announced a Rs 10 crore reward for Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan following their victory over Pakistan, but the renowned industrialist has denied any such claims.
Afghanistan recorded their second surprise victory in the World Cup on Monday, as well as their first-ever win over Pakistan in the 50-over format.
Afghanistan stunned their neighbours with an eight-wicket defeat on a sluggish Chennai surface, riding on a dazzling all-round performance in the field.
The opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), and Rahmat Shah (77)* batted brilliantly to help Afghanistan secure a historic victory.
Afghanistan has now defeated two cricketing titans: former world champions Pakistan and defending champions England. Afghanistan moved up to sixth place on the points table as a result of the victory. Pakistan, on the other hand, remained in fifth place with four points and a net run rate of -0.400.
The Afghans will next face Sri Lanka on October 30 at Pune's high-scoring Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
