Pakistan blames India for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suicide attack, Centre responds
PTC News Desk: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday strongly rejected the Pakistan Army's claim that India was behind the Waziristan suicide bomber attack which killed 13 soldiers and injured several.
"We have seen an official statement by the Pakistan Army seeking to blame India for the attack on Waziristan on 28 June. We reject this statement with the contempt it deserves," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement on X.
The attack, which underscores the growing violence in Pakistan's tribal belt, was claimed by the suicide wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a faction affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Considered one of the deadliest assaults in North Waziristan in recent months, the incident has intensified concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has experienced a significant rise in militant attacks along its border regions. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of providing safe haven to militants behind these cross-border strikes — a charge that Kabul continues to reject.
According to reports, nearly 290 people—primarily security personnel—have been killed in attacks carried out by anti-government groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan so far this year.
Pakistan currently holds the second position on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terror-related fatalities increasing by 45 percent over the past year, reaching a total of 1,081 deaths.
