Parliament Winter Session: All-party gathering regarding Lok Sabha security breach scheduled for 4 pm

All party meeting on LS security breach: Today marks the eighth day of the Winter Session, a crucial meeting preceding the penultimate session of the Narendra Modi government's second term. Parliamentarians commenced the day by paying tribute to the martyrs of the tragic December 13, 2001, Parliament attacks.

Expectations for stormy sessions arise within both houses, as clashes between the treasury and opposition benches are anticipated. Several legislations proposed by the government, including one regulating the appointment and service terms of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners of India, are likely to intensify debates. The bill successfully passed in the Rajya Sabha despite vehement opposition protests, alleging that it undermines a recent Supreme Court decision concerning election officer appointments.

Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal refuted these accusations, emphasising that the new legislation addresses shortcomings present in the 1991 Act. The Winter Session, inaugurated on December 4, is slated for closure on December 22, pending any sine die adjournments. This session is notably the penultimate gathering of the Narendra Modi-led government in its second term.

LoP Mallikarjun Kharge raises the issue of LS security breach

"...The issue is very serious. This is not a question of just Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, this is about how two people were able to come inside despite such elaborate security and cause a security breach..." Kharge said in Rajya Sabha.

Deputy Chairperson's directive after Lok Sabha breach

Maharashtra Legislative council alters visitor pass policy

During the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra state legislature in Nagpur, Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe took immediate action following a security breach incident in the Lok Sabha. Gorhe instructed officials to refrain from issuing council gallery passes to visitors in response to the breach, aiming to enhance security measures within the legislative environment.

The directive comes in the wake of a significant security breach on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack. In this breach, two intruders leaped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. The intruders discharged yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being subdued by MPs.
