PM Modi cautions global south about emerging Israel-Hamas conflict challenges
Israel-Hamas conflict: During the virtual Second Global South Summit inauguration in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted emerging challenges from the West Asia situation. He emphasised the need for unity among the Global South for global prosperity, urging five core principles: Consultation, Cooperation, Communication, Creativity, and Capacity-building to foster 'One earth, one family, one future.'
Addressing the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas, PM Modi stressed India's condemnation of attacks on both sides, advocating dialogue, diplomacy, and humanitarian aid for Palestine following discussions with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Emphasising the significance of a united Global South voice, Modi announced the establishment of a Global South Centre for Excellence to foster developmental initiatives and knowledge sharing among developing nations. He also highlighted India's efforts to extend weather and climate monitoring to developing countries following its role as the G20 Chair.
Reflecting on India's proactive role in prior Global South summits, Modi reiterated the country's commitment to inclusive and human-centric initiatives. These included advocating for the African Union's permanent membership, reforms in multilateral banks, renewed efforts for sustainable development goals, and a focus on climate finance.
Further, the Prime Minister urged participation in the Global Fuel Alliance and unveiled plans for an upcoming Artificial Intelligence Global Partnership Summit. India aims to share its digital public infrastructure expertise with the Global South, emphasising collaboration and capacity-building across nations.
