Raja Raghuvanshi case: '100% sure she committed murder': Sonam's brother Govind seeks death penalty for sister
PTC Web Desk: In a sensational development in the alleged murder of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, the victim’s brother-in-law Govind Raghuvanshi has made a public statement, declaring he is "100% sure" that his sister, Sonam Raghuvanshi, was involved in the crime. Speaking at a press conference, Govind demanded the harshest punishment for Sonam, including the death penalty, if proven guilty.
The case, which has gripped national attention, involves the suspicious death of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was found dead in a gorge near Sohra, close to Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, on June 2. Raja was on his honeymoon with Sonam in the northeastern state in May. Both had been reported missing during their trip, prompting a wide-scale investigation.
Sonam was later found alone near a roadside dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. Following her arrest, four other persons—Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and Anand—were also apprehended in connection with the alleged murder.
Govind stated unequivocally, “According to the evidence found so far, I am 100 per cent sure that she has committed this murder. All the accused in this case are associated with Raj Kushwaha. If Sonam is guilty, she should be hanged.”
He went on to express remorse to Raja's family and distanced himself completely from his sister. “I have severed all ties with Sonam. I’ve already apologised to Raja’s family. He was like a brother to me. I will now fight for justice on his behalf,” he said.
Further shedding light on the connection between Sonam and the accused, Govind revealed that Sonam had a close relationship with Raj Kushwaha, referring to him as her ‘brother’ for the past three years. “Raj Kushwaha used to call Sonam ‘Didi’, and she has been tying Rakhi to him for three years,” he added.
Govind said Sonam had shown no remorse or made any attempt to contact the family since the incident. “She doesn’t consider herself guilty. We have completely cut off from her,” he asserted.
Currently, all five accused, including Sonam, are in police custody under the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police and are lodged at the Shillong Sadar Police Station. They are scheduled to be produced in court today.
