PTC Web Desk: The body of a six-year-old boy was recovered from the Narwana branch of the Bhakra Canal in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district on Thursday. His mother and elder sister remain missing.

The deceased has been identified as Ekam, a resident of Ravidas Mohalla in Kanwla village of Ambala district. The body was retrieved by diver Pargat Singh, who later handed it over to the police.

According to the police, Ekam had been missing since the morning of January 23, along with his mother Meena Devi (35) and his eight-year-old sister Divya. The trio had reportedly left their house without informing anyone.

Rohit Singh, uncle of the deceased, told the Ambala police that his brother Ravi Kumar, Ekam’s father, had died around two months ago. Following his death, Meena Devi allegedly left the house with her two children.

Rohit stated that he last saw Meena Devi leaving the house with the children on the morning of January 23. Assuming she had gone to the market, he did not intervene. However, when she failed to return by evening and her mobile phone remained switched off, he began searching for them. Despite contacting relatives and Meena Devi’s parental home, no information was found, following which a missing person complaint was lodged with the police.

Diver Pargat Singh said he received information from locals about a child’s body floating near Jyotisar Head. The boy was wearing black jeans, a red coat, and shoes, matching the description and photographs earlier circulated on WhatsApp regarding the missing child from Ambala.

Suspecting the body to be Ekam’s, he informed the family and the police. The family later confirmed the identity.

Since the missing person report was registered in Ambala, the body was handed over to Ambala police for further investigation.
