In a distressing and unsettling incident that highlights the ongoing issue of misconduct by cab drivers, unprofessional and distressing conduct of the cab driver towards a woman sends shockwaves and raises fear among womens for taking cabs for travelling.

A homoeopathic doctor and a content creator Bhumika Maheshwari took to her X handle (former Twitter) and expressed her concern about safety of women as she recently faced a distressing experience with a cab driver.

The unsettling incident unfolded on October 19 when Bhumika Maheshwari received the ride conformation message on WhatsApp after she booked the cab, but soon after completing the ride, she encountered a distressing situation where she received inappropriate messages from driver punctuating the message with a photograph of himself and expressed his desire to be friends with her. In the messages, driver wrote, "Main friendship karna chahta hoon aapse."

Taking to her X handle, sharing the screenshots of the chat and tagging @Uber_India Bhumika Maheshwari wrote, “On 19/10/2023, I encountered a distressing situation where I received inappropriate messages from one of your drivers after a ride.”

“This incident has not only left me feeling uncomfortable but has also raised serious security and safety concerns. I strongly believe that Uber should be a platform where customers, especially women, can trust the drivers and the overall experience,” she added.

“This incident has shaken that trust, and I am deeply concerned about the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation. I kindly request that you take immediate and decisive action to investigate this matter, identify the driver involved, and take appropriate measures to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. The safety and security of Uber passengers should be a top priority, and I hope you will take this complaint seriously. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter,” she further added.

Taking a swift action and replying to the Tweet of Bhumika Maheshwari, Uber India wrote, "Hi Bhumika, this is definitely not the kind of experience we would like you to have. Please send across your registered details via Direct Message, we'll get this addressed at the earliest."

Such frightening incidents raise concern about the safety of entrusting the drivers and about the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation.
