PTC News Desk: As temperatures soar across East India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heatwave alerts for West Bengal and Odisha. In the National Capital Region (NCR), IMD predicts rising temperatures over the coming days.

According to IMD reports, northern, southern, and eastern states have experienced temperatures four to six degrees Celsius above normal in the past week. In Delhi, temperatures are forecasted to exceed 38 degrees Celsius, with a potential rise of 1-2 degrees in the upcoming days. Additionally, eastern India could see temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius this week.

Dr. Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD, stated, "Heatwave conditions are currently prevailing in India, and over the next 4-5 days, it can get even more intense." He mentioned a red alert in West Bengal and an orange alert in Odisha due to soaring temperatures. Odisha recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, with the orange alert expected to persist for the next four days.

While eastern states may experience a slight temperature drop on Monday, Bihar is likely to face heatwave conditions for the next five days, with Jharkhand also at risk.

In southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, a "Hot and Humid" weather warning has been issued for the next four to five days, although there is no heatwave scenario currently reported in these regions.
