Chandigarh chemist firing: Accused shot in police encounter during escape bid in Dhanas

PTC News Desk:  In a significant development in Chandigarh's Sector 11 chemist shooting case, both the accused were shot during a police encounter in Dhanas on Thursday morning after a dramatic chase. The arrested accused were being brought back to Chandigarh, where they attempted to escape the police custody, however they were nabbed shortly after.

Earlier, the Chandigarh Police, with assistance from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, have reportedly arrested two accused — Aryan and Sunny Mehra — in connection with the broad-daylight attack at Sector 11's Shri Kumar Medical Hall on June 13 that claimed the life of 45-year-old Janki Das.

Meanwhile third accused who fired nearly 13 rounds from a sophisticated weapon is currently absconding.

The accused in the murder case of Janaki Das, the cashier of Kumar Medical Store in Chandigarh's Sector 11, were injured in a police encounter. According to police sources, the suspects attempted to escape while being brought to Chandigarh after their arrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The police then opened fire and managed to apprehend both accused.

The incident took place near the forest area of Sector 25 and is reported to have occurred between 5:00 am and 5:30 am today. Police teams have reached the spot and are conducting an investigation.

During the encounter, one of the accused, Sunny Mehra, was hit by two bullets, while the other accused, Aryan, sustained one bullet injury. The bullets are said to have struck their legs. Both were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

According to police sources, the two accused are highly cunning. As soon as the police teams entered Chandigarh, the suspects were reportedly aware that the route passed through a deserted area where they could easily escape. Taking advantage of the situation, they attempted to flee, prompting police action.
