Weight gain may lead to loss of pay as Air India tightens fitness norms for cabin crew

Under the new policy, cre members whose Body Mass Index (BMI) falls outside the prescribed limit, shall be removed from the rosters and couls also suffer loss of pay.
As per the policy, a BMI reading between 18 and 24.9 has been defined as the “normal” and desired range.
It added, “The current policy, in the interim, serves as a preparatory measure before the policy with enhanced fitness standards is implemented.”
A BMI below 18 is will considered as underweight which still be accepted provided the crew members go through rigorous medical evaluation and fucntional assessment.
Those with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 will fall under the overweight category. This range may still be acceptable if the individual clears the functional assessment.
