Greater Noida woman dies after falling from third-floor balcony; husband, father-in-law arrested over dowry harassment allegations
PTC Web Desk: A 25-year-old woman died after allegedly falling from the third-floor balcony of her apartment in Greater Noida late Sunday night. Following allegations of dowry harassment from her family, her husband and father-in-law have been arrested.
The incident was reported from the Jalpura area under the jurisdiction of the Ecotech-III police station in Greater Noida.
According to police, the woman had been married for nearly one and a half years. Officials said they received information during the night that she had fallen from the rooftop of the building under suspicious circumstances.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailendra Kumar Singh said the police team immediately reached the spot after receiving the alert. Legal procedures are underway and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s family, the police have arrested her husband, Ritick Tanwar and her father-in-law for questioning in connection with the case.
The deceased has been identified as Deepika Nagar. Her family alleged that she had been facing continuous mental and physical harassment over dowry demands since her marriage in December 2024.
In the complaint, Deepika’s father, Sanjay Nagar, claimed that the family had spent close to Rs 1 crore on the wedding, including cash, jewellery, household items and a Scorpio vehicle. However, he alleged that her in-laws later demanded an additional Rs 50 lakh and a Toyota Fortuner.
According to the family, Deepika had called them on Sunday in a distressed condition and informed them that she was being assaulted by her husband and other family members.
Her father and relatives reportedly visited her matrimonial home later in the evening in an attempt to settle the matter. A few hours later, the family was informed that Deepika had fallen from the balcony and sustained critical injuries.
The victim’s father accused the in-laws of killing his daughter over dowry and claimed injury marks were visible on her body. He also alleged that blood was coming from her nose and ears when she was taken to hospital.
The police said further investigation is in progress and action will be taken based on evidence and the post-mortem report.
