PTC News Desk: In a significant development in the ongoing probe into the mysterious death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore, his cousin and Assam Police Service (APS) officer Sandipan Garg has been arrested. He was reportedly present with the singer at the time of the incident.

The CID took Sandipan into custody after multiple rounds of questioning, during which he and several of Zubeen’s close associates were interrogated. He is scheduled to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court today.

The 52-year-old singer, celebrated for his Bollywood and Assamese songs, died on September 19 in Singapore while swimming near an island. He had gone on a yacht trip during his visit to perform at the North East India Festival.

Prior to Sandipan’s arrest, the police had already detained four others — the singer’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, manager Siddharth Sharma, event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and musician Amritprava Mahanta — in connection with the case.

Shekhar Jyoti Goswami had alleged that the singer's manager and the organiser of the event where he was supposed to perform in Singapore poisoned him. He also alleged that the accused specifically chose a foreign destination to cover up the act.
