Who will join the new Bihar Cabinet? Here are the likely names

As Nitish Kumar prepares to take oath, sources said 18 members, including the chief minister and two deputy chief ministers, are expected to be sworn in on Thursday.

According to the sources, the Cabinet may include six ministers each from the BJP and JD(U), while three positions are likely to go to allies: LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM(S), and RLM.

    Likely JD(U) ministers

Sources also suggest additional possible inductees such as Rahul Kumar Singh, Sudhanshu Shekhar, Kaladhar Prasad Mandal, and Panna Lal Singh Patel.

    Likely BJP ministers

BJP insiders say that most ministers from the outgoing Cabinet are expected to retain their positions, with the party planning to introduce around three fresh faces. Those likely to continue include:

Historic moment for Bihar, says JDU’s Vijay Chaudhary

PTC Web Desk:  Bihar is set to witness another political milestone as Nitish Kumar, after being unanimously chosen as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has staked claim to form the next government. His oath-taking ceremony will take place at 11,30 am on Thursday at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, marking his 10th swearing-in as Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the event along with senior leaders, including Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as chief ministers from at least seven states.

The NDA alliance, led by JD(U) and BJP, secured a decisive mandate in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 out of 243 seats. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85, LJP (Ram Vilas) with 19, HAM(S) with five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha with four seats.

On Wednesday, the 75-year-old leader first submitted his resignation as chief minister and was subsequently re-elected as the leader of both JD(U) and the NDA legislature party. He then approached Governor Arif Mohammed Khan with letters of support from all alliance partners to form the new government.

The BJP chose Samrat Choudhury as its legislature party leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader, confirming their continuation as Bihar’s two deputy chief ministers.

This swearing-in will mark Nitish Kumar’s 10th term as chief minister, a rare milestone in Indian politics. Known for shifting political alliances over the years, he has remained central to Bihar’s power structure regardless of coalition changes.

NDA leaders met on Wednesday to finalise ministerial berths and departmental responsibilities for alliance partners. The role of Assembly Speaker was also discussed. According to sources, the final list of ministers was to be submitted to the governor early Thursday, with new ministers being informed shortly before the ceremony.
