PM Modi’s helicopter returns to Kolkata due to dense fog, rally plans in Bengal uncertain
PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter was forced to return to Kolkata airport on Saturday afternoon after dense fog reduced visibility near the Taherpur helipad in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
According to officials, the helicopter hovered over the helipad for some time but could not land due to poor visibility. With landing conditions remaining unsafe, the pilot turned back and returned to Kolkata.
The Prime Minister had travelled to Kolkata earlier in the morning and was scheduled to fly from there to Taherpur. However, foggy weather in the region disrupted the aerial journey.
PM Modi is slated to address a political rally titled ‘Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha’ in Nadia later today. The visit comes amid heightened political tension in West Bengal over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The Prime Minister is also expected to inaugurate several national highway projects during his visit.
As of now, it remains unclear whether PM Modi will attempt to reach Taherpur later by helicopter once weather conditions improve, switch to an alternative mode of transport or adjust his schedule.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation, with further decisions likely to depend on visibility conditions in the area.
