Rs 50 lakh insurance, pension for panchayat members: Tejaswi Yadav's big outreach ahead of Bihar elections
PTC News Desk: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday said allowances of the representatives of Bihar's panchayati raj system will be doubled if the INDIA bloc comes to power in the state.
"INDIA bloc, if voted to power, will double the allowances of the representatives of Bihar's Panchayati Raj system," said Yadav, the Chief Ministerial face of the Opposition alliance. Seated next to him in the press conference was Mukesh Sahani, the chief of Vikassheel Insaan Party and the alliance's Deputy Chief Ministerial face.
"Representatives of panchayats and Gram Kachahari (village courts) had been demanding pension benefits. We have decided that they will receive a pension. They would also enjoy a Rs 50 lakh insurance coverage. We will also hike the margin of those working as part of the public distribution network," Yadav announced.
He further announced that individuals engaged in traditional occupations such as pottery, blacksmithing, and carpentry would be provided with interest-free loans of ₹5 lakh to expand their businesses.
Asserting that Bihar is ready for transformation, the RJD leader said, “People are tired of the current government. Bihar’s people will bring change. They gave the NDA 20 years; we’re only asking for 20 months to prove ourselves. Our goal is to make Bihar the number one state.”
Bihar will go to polls on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14. The ruling alliance includes Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), the BJP, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), the Hindustani Awam Morcha, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha. The opposition front comprises Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, the Congress, the Left parties, and Mukesh Sahani’s VIP.
Dismissing the NDA’s claims of internal discord within the Mahagathbandhan, Yadav said, “Mukesh Sahani and I are campaigning together. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will also join the campaign. We’ve already held a meeting to finalise the alliance manifesto,” adding that, unlike the Opposition, “it’s the NDA that’s facing internal issues.”
