Sukhbir Singh Badal Meets PM Modi amid fresh buzz over possible BJP-SAD alliance ahead of Punjab Assembly elections 2027
PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House in New Delhi on Friday, triggering fresh political speculation ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The high-level meeting comes at a time when political activity in Punjab has begun to intensify. For months, the BJP had maintained that they would contest the 2027 Assembly elections independently. BJP leaders had repeatedly asserted that the party was preparing to fight the elections on its own in Punjab.
However, Sukhbir Singh Badal's meeting with Prime Minister Modi has once again fuelled speculation that the two former allies could explore the possibility of reviving their alliance before the Punjab Assembly elections 2027.
While the official agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, political observers believe several Punjab-specific issues could be discussed. These may include the state's law and order situation, concerns over recurring paper leak cases, the growing drug menace and other governance-related challenges affecting Punjab.
The meeting is also being closely watched for any political signals regarding the future relationship between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal, which ended their decades-old alliance over the now-repealed farm laws.
Neither the Prime Minister's Office nor the Shiromani Akali Dal has issued an official statement on the discussions so far.
