Sunil Jakhar protests in Chandigarh over AAP leaders’ alleged occupation of Punjab govt houses
PTC Web Desk: Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday held a protest near the official residences of Punjab ministers and the Circuit House in Chandigarh, alleging that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and associates from Delhi were occupying government properties meant for authorised occupants.
Jakhar alleged that the arrangement had the backing of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, whom he referred to as the “super CM”. The allegations come amid a wider political dispute over the use of government accommodation in Chandigarh.
Jakhar questions use of ministerial residences
Speaking to reporters, Jakhar said he went to the area personally to check who was staying in the government houses rather than relying on social media claims.
He alleged that Punjab ministers had been reduced to “ministers in name only” and claimed that some had even removed their nameplates from their allotted residences.
Jakhar also questioned the reported presence of files from the department headed by Punjab Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian at government bungalow No. 926.
He claimed the files were connected to the alleged Rs 10,000-crore GMADA land-related irregularities currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate. The ED has alleged potential financial losses to GMADA linked to land acquisition, auctions and other decisions.
Questions over files and official secrecy
Jakhar questioned how departmental files could have reached a government residence occupied by AAP leader Satyendar Jain.
Referring to the oath of secrecy taken by ministers, he alleged that the movement of the files raised questions about the functioning of the Punjab government.
He also linked the issue to recent Enforcement Directorate searches and demanded the resignation of Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian.
Circuit House access row
Jakhar further claimed that he had booked a room at the Sector 39 Circuit House for September 29 but was stopped by the Punjab Police from entering the premises.
He alleged that rooms at the Circuit House were being occupied by AAP associates, leaving them unavailable to government officials, political leaders and journalists visiting Chandigarh.
Jakhar appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to remove what he described as unauthorised occupants from government properties.
He also warned that his protest would intensify if the alleged occupants did not vacate properties built using public money.
Jakhar raises LPU violence issue
Jakhar also spoke about the recent unrest at Lovely Professional University (LPU) and the controversy surrounding Chitkara University.
He criticised the Punjab Government over the LPU violence and alleged that outsiders had entered the girls’ hostel during the protests.
