Mahua Moitra expelled from Lok Sabha in 'cash-for-query' case; TMC MP leader reacts
New Delhi, December 8: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra was on Friday expelled from Lok Sabha in 'cash-for-query' case. Earlier in the day, the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha presented its findings on the cash-for-query accusations involving the TMC leader within Parliament's lower house.
BJP MP Vijay Sonkar, the committee's head, formally submitted the report, causing uproar and resulting in a two-hour adjournment of the session. The Ethics Committee, following an investigation into the accusations raised by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, endorsed its 500-page report on November 9. The report strongly recommended the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the 17th Lok Sabha due to what it characterised as her "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal conduct."
Mahua Moitra, on her expulsion as a member of the Lok Sabha, said, "...If this Modi government thought that by shutting me up they could do away with the Adani issue, let me tell you this that this kangaroo court has only shown to all of India that the haste and the abuse of due process you have used demonstrates how important Adani is to you. And to what length you will go to harass a single woman MP into shutting her into submission..."
Mahua Moitra was not allowed to speak during the discussion inside the House. However, the Trinamool leader read out her statement outside the Lok Sabha. She said the Ethics committee broke every rule.
The Opposition staged a walkout after the Lok Sabha adopted the motion to expel the TMC MP. The House was then adjourned till December 11.
Notably, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has accused TMC MP Mahua Moitra of receiving payment from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising queries in Parliament regarding the Adani Group. Allegations suggest that Mahua Moitra allegedly shared her Lok Sabha credentials with Hiranandani to ask questions targeting the Adani Group.
