AAP sarpanch shot dead by unidentified assailants at wedding function in Tarn Taran
PTC Web Desk: In a shocking incident, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch was shot dead by unidentified assailants during a wedding function in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Harpinder Singh, the incumbent sarpanch of village Thathian Mahantan. According to preliminary information, Harpinder Singh had arrived at Sidhu Farm in Tarn Taran to attend a marriage ceremony when three unidentified attackers opened fire at him.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants fired multiple rounds, fatally injuring the sarpanch on the spot. Another person, Germanjeet Singh, who was sitting beside him at the time of the attack, also sustained bullet injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and his condition is reported to be stable.
The sudden gunfire caused chaos at the wedding venue, with guests running for cover.
Police officials reached the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. The police have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the attackers. The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, though investigators are exploring all possible angles, including personal and political rivalry.
Senior police officials stated that CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to trace the movement of the suspects. Security has been tightened in and around the village to prevent any further untoward incidents.
