Amritsar plunges into lawlessness: ASI shot dead while on duty, youth killed 50 metres away from police station
PTC News Desk: A Punjab Police ASI was shot dead in Amritsar while he was on duty near Bhagtanwala grain market under the Gate Hakima police station in the early hours of Friday. He was deployed with the PCR when the two youths riding a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at him.
Amritsar ASI Harjit Singh was a resident of Tarn Taran.
Harjit was inflicted with three bullets following which he was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
DGP Gaurav Yadav, in a post on X, condoled the death of the police officer saying Harjit had laid down his life in the line of duty.

He said the Punjab government had announced an ex-gratia assistance of Rs 1 crore for the bereaved family, while an additional insurance amount of Rs 1 crore would be provided to the family.
Youth shot dead 50 metres away from police station
A 25-year-old man was shot dead in Amritsar just around 50 steps away from a police post. The incident took place at around 10:50 pm on Thursday when two men riding a scooter allegedly opened multiple rounds of fire at him.
One of the bullets hit the victim near his chest following which he was immediately transported to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
The deceased worked as a Zomato delivery executive. He had got married around two years ago and has a one-year-old child.
Police from Islamabad police station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. According to police, the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused soon.
The deceased has been identified as Sahil Gill, a resident of Kot Khalsa. The shooting took place around 40 steps from his house and approximately 50 steps from the Kot Khalsa police post.
