Advocate Dhami criticises govt's separate events, announces key programmes for 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
PTC Web Desk: At a programme held in Sri Anandpur Sahib on Thursday, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami shared details about the upcoming events marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala Ji.
He said on November 21, Akhand Path Sahib will begin at Gurdwara Bhora Sahib in connection with Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Gurta Gaddi Diwas, and the bhog will be performed on November 23.
Advocate Dhami added that the martyrdom-related Akhand Path will also start on November 23, and its bhog will be held on November 25 at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib.
The SGPC president further announced a major event on November 29, when a grand Nagar Kirtan will start from Gurdwara Bibangarh Sahib in Kiratpur Sahib and reach Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib. On the same day, “Sees Sanskar Diwas” will be observed. Panthic scholar Bhai Pinderpal Singh will address the sangat and connect them with the history and life of Guru Sahib.
Advocate Dhami criticised the Punjab Government for organising separate events instead of joining SGPC programmes. He said conducting religious ceremonies was the responsibility of the SGPC, not the government. Advocate Dhami alleged that the government’s programmes appeared more focused on publicity, which was why repeated mistakes were happening.
He referred to the government’s earlier event in Srinagar where, according to him, objectionable activities like singing and dancing took place. He also mentioned controversy over a picture at Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The SGPC president said during the Akali Dal government, historic centenaries were celebrated respectfully and major development works were carried out in cities. He criticised the present government for failing to build the Sri Anandpur Sahib–Garhshankar road, which was later constructed through Kar Sewa. He urged the government to establish a major hospital or university in Sri Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary.
