Advocate Dhami objects to Takht Sri Patna Sahib’s Tankhaiya ruling on Sukhbir Singh Badal
PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has expressed serious concern over the recent decision by Panj Pyare of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib to declare Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal as 'Tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct). He termed the action as "beyond jurisdiction" and potentially divisive for the Sikh community.
Advocate Dhami said the traditions and conventions of Khalsa Panth existed to resolve internal matters—not to create communal unrest. "It is inappropriate to disregard the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib," Advocate Dhami stated, warning that such actions could sow discord and confusion within Sikh Panth.
While acknowledging the deep reverence held for Takht Sri Patna Sahib among Sikhs, Advocate Dhami reiterated that only Sri Akal Takht Sahib has the ultimate authority to deliberate and decide on Panthic matters. He referred to the long-standing tradition where Five Singh Sahiban collectively discuss and resolve issues under the leadership of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, a practice that has historically unified and elevated the Sikh community on the global stage.
The SGPC chief cautioned that if the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib begins to be challenged by other Takhts, it would be a serious blow to the sanctity and richness of Sikh traditions. He appealed for dialogue and collective resolution in the current matter to avoid further internal conflict and to redirect Sikh strength towards the community’s upliftment and the global propagation of Sikhism.
